Collection of 212 albumen prints showing Manila, Cavite, Luzon, and Rizal, the Philippines, ca.1900-1902. The photographs (formerly housed in an album) may have been taken by a member of the U.S. Army, Fourth Cavalry. Members of the Fourth Cavalry were sent to the Philippines during the Spanish American War and were later involved in the Philippine-American War (1899-1902), ultimately becoming part of the Fourth Philippine Expedition. Photographs of the homes of Gen. Arthur MacArthur and Filipino General and President Emilio Aguinaldo are included. MacArthur was a Brigadier General of U.S. Volunteers and took part in the capture of Manila in 1898, later becoming the Military Governor of the Philippines. Images of Manila landmarks (Custom House, Magellan Monument, and the Bridge of Spain), military sites (Fort Malate, Camp Lawton, and Fort Santiago), Army ships (the Sheridan, Meade, Newark, and Trojan), are joined by photographs of Filipino daily life and customs, including images of Chinese emigrant workers, along with several photographs of unidentified men, some in military dress. There are two photographs of an office with the caption "Two interiors where "L.E.R" labored."
